Who Can Apply for FEMA Assistance?

You may qualify for FEMA assistance if:

  • Your home or personal property was damaged or destroyed during a declared disaster.
  • You live in an area that has been declared eligible for FEMA assistance.
  • You’ve experienced losses that are not covered by insurance.

Types of Assistance Available

FEMA offers a range of assistance, including:

  • Temporary Housing: Financial aid to cover the cost of rent or temporary lodging.
  • Home Repairs: Grants to help make your home safe, sanitary, and functional.
  • Other Essential Needs: Assistance with medical, dental, funeral, and childcare expenses.
  • Personal Property Replacement: Help to replace essential personal items such as clothing, appliances, and furniture.

How to Apply for FEMA Assistance

Applying for FEMA assistance is straightforward and can be done in a few ways:

  1. Online: Visit the FEMA website at disasterassistance.gov to apply directly.
  2. Phone: Call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) for assistance.
  3. FEMA Mobile App: Download the FEMA App on your mobile device for easy access.
  4. In Person: Visit a local Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) if available in your area.

What You’ll Need to Apply

To apply for FEMA assistance, be sure to have the following information ready:

  • Social Security Number
  • Address of the damaged property
  • Current contact information
  • Insurance information (if applicable)
  • Bank account details for direct deposit
  • Description of disaster-related damage and losses
